“It’s about the community and the quality of life.  I don’t see why the ‘yobs’ should muck up things.  We all work to make a decent life and we should look after it.  We have to preserve what we’ve got”

He says he looks forward to his hospital visits.  He added “I go there and chat up the ladies.  You can have some surprising conversations.  They talk about all sorts and sometimes you find out you know the same people.  I don’t go away feeling I’ve wasted an afternoon.

“I used to be a Punch & Judy man years ago so I tell them a joke every now and again - you need to lighten up their situation”

Mr Reed was nominated by Bernie Winter, from Walderslade, who said “John has devoted countless hours of hard work in helping to make Medway a safer place to live”
SOME 75-year-olds would consider taking it easy and spend more time at home, but JOHN REED is busier than ever.

Mr Reed, of Wigmore Road, was the Chairman of the Medway Neighbourhood Watch Association for four years and represented  Medway on the Kent County Association.

He also makes regular trips to the Milton Ward at Medway Maritime Hospital to talk to patients and help lift their spirits.

As a result of his community involvement, Mr Reed was presented with a “Pride in Medway” award.

John said “It has come as a pleasant surprise. Its always nice to be recognised but you don’t do it to get recognition. I was  Chairman of the Medway NWA for four years but have been involved with the Wigmore Watch for 14 years.
Our previous Chairman was presented with a Pride in Medway Award
